Insider's Guide To Las Vegas

3rd September 2015

Fabulous food spots, buzzy bars and excellent entertainment – you can bet the Las Vegas Strip has everything covered for a lively trip. Check out our guide on making the most out of your time in this iconic American city.

Stay

The grandest of them all, the Bellagio, sits proud behind its famous fountains, smack bang in the middle of the Strip. If you want old-fashioned Las Vegas glamour, you get it in truckloads here. From the main entrance it takes at least 10 minutes to snake your way through the gambling floor to reach your room.

One of the strip’s newer hotels, Aria has spacious rooms that look out on to the bright lights and brilliant chaos of the town (don’t worry, there are black-out blinds). The gambling space in the lobby is calmer than the Bellagio, so good if you fancy a go on the slot machines.

Eat

Bookings are a must at Hakkasan as this popular spot gets packed out – even on weeknights – but for good reason: the Chinese food is mouthwateringly delicious. If you’re in the mood for a drink after dinner, head to the bar upstairs.

Think of sushi fine-dining and Nobu usually comes to mind. And the fresh menu of salads, tempuras and sushi at Nobu in Caesars Palace doesn’t disappoint. Ask for a table by the bar and you’ll see the chefs in action.

Drink

You could spend hours people-watching at the trendy Marquee Nightclub at The Cosmopolitan hotel. Reserve a table and try out some of its excellent cocktails: the cosmopolitans are especially good, of course.

Shop

Snap up all the American favourites – including J Crew, Tommy Hilfiger and Polo Ralph Lauren – at a snip of the prices, at the North and South Premium Outlets.

Do

One of the world’s best-known magicians, David Copperfield has a residency at the MGM Grand Hotel. It’s cheesy, but in a very good way (he emerges from a plume of smoke and ends the show on a levitating motorcycle…).

No trip to Las Vegas is complete without a visit to the Grand Canyon. Book a helicopter tour with Maverick, whose price includes transfers to and from the helipad. The views of the Hoover Dam and Canyon are unmissable.

Las Vegas shows don’t get much better than Le Reve at the Wynn. The acrobatics, which take place in a water chamber and high in the arena, are breathtaking.

Spa

The beautiful Espa spa at Vdara (at 1,495 suites considered a 'boutique' hotel) provides a welcome break from the noise of the Strip. The Desert Rose Massage, nearly two hours long, is particularly relaxing.
