Cruising the Silversea way

17th July 2023

Step aboard a Silversea cruise and discover true luxury afloat.

A cerise sunset colour the sky as we sip chilled champagne and nibble on tiny, tasty blinis topped with caviar, while overlooking a calm turquoise sea. It’s one of those Silversea moments we enjoy nightly on our verandah on Silver Muse before venturing out for dinner at one of the eight restaurants and dancing in moonlight. I want to bottle that experience and keep it until I’m back at home and in need of a Silversea super fix.

Ultra luxurious, Silversea makes you feel special from the moment you step aboard until you wave your reluctant goodbyes. Even though it’s a full house with 596 passengers, the all-inclusive Silver Muse retains a small ship intimacy with all the trimmings.

It’s one of the Silversea stable of 13 ships including the new environmentally conscious Silversea Nova due to launch in August and Silversea Ray, set to launch next year. There’s a choice of 900 destinations around the world including the Arctic Circle and Greenland, the Mediterranean, Africa, South America and the Galapagos.

Asia Cruise Adventures

Our Asian cruise is filled with exciting ports and layback sea days. I love waking up to the view from our classic veranda suite and checking the Daily Chronicle for activities – table tennis, cards, trivia, golf putting and dance classes are all options.

The pool deck is a favourite for many and after a dip and a sunbake, the Italian style pizza at the poolside Spaccanapoli Cafe that has a following is the place to go, followed by a gelato, of course.

For a touch of chic, we dine at La Dame where the escargots, lamb and Grand Marnier souffle are “magnifique” – a fee applies. Kaiseki is great for lunch with superb sashimi and sushi and a different menu at night that attracts a surcharge. At the elegant Alantide the lobster is excellent, and you can cook your own steak on a hot lava stone at Hot Rocks Cafe. Indochine takes diners on a mouth-watering Asian discovery and Silver Note has a club atmosphere and is the home of foot-tapping jazz.

My favourite is La Terrazza where we sit under a blanket of stars with a gentle breeze and dine on a superb Italian feast with antipasto, pasta, veal cooked to perfection, refreshing sorbet and an indulgent tiramisu as the grand finale. There’s also 24-hour room service if you get peckish.

For the best coffee and deli-bar snacks as well as stunning art, the Arts Cafe is amazing. Gym lovers are catered for with speciality classes, including Pilates and yoga and spa fans can head to the Zagara Spa for indulgent treatments and pampering.

Back at home, memories of a cocktail at Panorama or Dolce Vita lounges and a show at the slick Venetian Lounge linger in  my mind, and I long to experience those Silversea Moments again.
