Britain's major domestic and overseas airline, British Airways operates thousands of daily flights throughout the U.K., Europe and around the world from its bases at London's Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. With its recent merger with Iberia of Spain and close marketing and alliance ties with Qantas, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific and other Oneworld members, British Airways provides an extensive list of direct routes, seamless connection opportunities and frequent flyer benefits.
British Airways was formed in 1974 with the merging of BOAC, British European (BEA) and two other British carriers. In 2008, the airline combined with Iberia Airlines of Spain to form International Airlines Group (IAG), one of the world's largest airlines. British Airways, or BA as it's known, also operates several subsidiary airlines, including BA CityFlyer and Open Skies.
Executive Club is the British Airways frequent flyer programme. While not available for residents in Australia or the South Pacific, benefits are still available when flying British Airways due to its Oneworld Alliance membership. Members of the Qantas, American, Cathay Pacific or other Oneworld frequent flier programs can still earn points and book award travel on British Airways flights.
The British Airways fleet is made up of a mixture of both Airbus and Boeing aircraft. With more than 300 planes making up its mainline operation, the BA fleet is one of the world's largest.
