The Cinque Terre, 'five lands' in Italian, is named after the five picturesque villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore and offers a glorious natural and historical setting that is best explored on foot.

An extensive network of ancient mule-tracks will take you along the coast through an extraordinary landscape of terraces, built by hand with stones and earth. Explore this magical part of Italy by land and sea, enjoying hiking, swimming and boat trips along the way.

Travel to the Cinque Terre from Florence and begin your adventure by walking along the coast towards Monterosso, home to an 11th century hermitage and ruins of a lighthouse from which you'll admire the rugged coastline. Explore Riomaggiore, the most southerly of the five villages and walk along a ridge path to Portovenere.
