The Canal du Midi links the Mediterreanean with the Garonne river which leads to Bordeaux. The canal was opened in 1681 and the ancient locks, stone bridges and aqueducts will amaze you. The Midi is famous for the thousands of shady plane trees lining the banks. We cruise past kilometres of vineyards and rolling hills of the beautiful Languedoc region.

Travellers are allowed time to relax, enjoy the superb countryside and explore the ancient villages, their markets, cellars and restaurants and take walks or bicycle rides in the shade of century old plane trees.

Treats of the trip are the medieval towns of Carcassone, Trebes and Narbonne where we pass under the Merchants bridge, one of the few bridges left in France lined with houses.

Six night packages including accommodation on the canal boat and all meals except three dinners commence from $2999* per person twin share.

The canal trips are run in alternate directions between Castelnaudary and Narbonne. Travel in comfort in the 15m Penichette 8 berth canal boat which offers a maximum of 6 guest cabins all with en-suite facilties.

Selected departure dates are available in 2008.
