Saffire Freycinet in Tasmania - heaven on earth

28th June 2011

Sue from our marketing department recently experience Saffire Freycinet, Tasmania.  Saffire is one of the Luxury Lodges of Australia.

Our trip started with a 2 hour drive through beautiful Tasmania to Coles Bay in Freycinet.  What a beautiful part of the world!  There are a few small towns for rest stops along the way but the majority of the drive is made up of the sorts of rugged landscapes that Tasmania is famous for.

Due to a bit of scenic detouring, we arrived later than expected.  I was blown away when we received a call from Saffire making sure that we weren’t lost.  Before we even got there we could tell that the service was going to be amazing.

As I walked into the reception area, I was struck by the view of the Hazard Mountains.  A floor to ceiling window lets the outside in and I could have spent hours staring at Coles Bay. That night, pre-dinner drinks and canapés were timed perfectly to watch the Hazard Mountains change colours as the sun sets.

My room was beautiful.  The way all the rooms are positioned makes you feel as if you are

the only person there.  And I had those amazing Hazard Mountain views!  The attention to detail – right down to the hot water bottle to warm my bed – made the experience extra special.

The food at Saffire was a standout of my trip.  Executive Chef Hugh Whitehouse, resident Sommelier Andrew Michalanney and the team have created an experience designed to highlight local produce at its best.   These guys are passionate about what they do and you can’t help but get swept up in it.  The degustation with matching wines (personally selected by Andrew) is a definite “must do” when you visit.

A range of interesting Saffire Activities (included in your package) and Experiences (at an

additional charge) are available.  I would recommend starting your day with a walk in the local National Park and finishing off with a trip to the Freycinet Marine Oyster Farm or to a local winery.  The views from the lookouts on our morning walk were incredible and something I won’t soon forget.  Our passionate and knowledgeable guide added a personal touch to the experience.

I couldn’t write this without mentioning Spa Saffire.  I treated myself to an hour massage and it was the best massage I’ve ever had.  A visit to the Spa is an essential part of your trip, and they even have treatments specially designed for men so everyone is catered for.

There are a few extra surprises that I won’t give away.  You’ll just have to visit Saffire and find out for yourself.

I would recommend Saffire for couples wanting to treat themselves to something really special.  The setting is incredibly romantic and the lounge areas, complete with toasty fire, are perfect for relaxing.

Have you stayed at Saffire?  We'd love to hear about it.  Share yours in the comments section below.
