Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort in Fiji

Patrick Fox from Reis & James Travel Associates recently spent four nights in Fiji’s beautiful Savusavu Bay.

Savusavu Bay is located on Fiji’s second largest island, Vanua Levu, in the country’s northern region. Here I stayed at the charming, five star Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort.  This award-winning resort certainly lived up to its name and provided many great experiences throughout my five days in Fiji. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable to say the least, while the ‘boutique’ nature of the resort gave a personal touch to the whole experience.

This property is perfect for family holidays. Unlike many of the boutique resorts in Fiji, Jean-Michel Cousteau welcomes children, and provides the best kids club I have ever come across. The resort is also famous for its ‘green’ practices and offers several eco-friendly tours with its own marine biologist.

There was so much to see and do around Savusavu Bay that I struggled to fit it all into my trip. Some of the highlights included snorkelling, diving, a guided village tour, hiking to the top of the mountain to take in the views, swimming in the resort’s beautiful pool, and relaxing with a morning yoga session. Also don’t miss out on getting a massage on the waterfront at sunset.

I can highly recommend a day trip Namena Marine Reserve about an hour from Savusavu. Whether you’re into diving or snorkelling, Namena provides without a doubt the most impressive array of marine life I have ever seen. Another lovely experience was having lunch on the resort’s very own private island, Naviavia Island. The chef will prepare you a gourmet picnic lunch and you can either catch a boat over or kayak out there yourself. All meals are included in your resort package and the food is fantastic.

Savusavu Bay, and Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort in particular, make for the perfect island getaway. I’d especially recommend the trip to large family groups, divers and honeymooners.
