The Whitsunday’s has always had a magical appeal. Set within the azure blue waters of the Coral Sea, this collection of alluring tropical islandsoff the central coast of Queensland continues to be one of the most celebrated resort and holiday destinations in the world – and for one very good reason, its location within the very heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

Hayman Island, the most northern of the Whitsunday Islands, is perhaps the island best placed from which to enjoy the immense beauty of that great wonder beneath the waves. Luckily, for those discerning travellers looking to visit the Great Barrier Reef and this idyllic private island, a new luxury resort is set to open, One&Only Hayman Island.

One&Only Beach Villa with pool

Known for its upscale hotel and luxury resort properties from Mexico and the Bahamas to the Middle East, Mauritius and the Maldives, One&Only naturally set its perceptive sights on Hayman Island, a location befitting what One&Only calls “the most beautiful locales in the world.”

Having purchased the iconic Whitsunday resort on Hayman Island, One&Only set about transforming the grounds, rooms and facilities in a multi-million dollar renovation project. “Introducing new accommodation, the resort has been reimagined,” says One & Only. With its 1 July 2014 opening, One&Only confidently states that the newly redeveloped One & Only Hayman Island “will redefine luxury for the Australian market.”

Beauty Meets Functionality

According to One&Only, the elegant interiors, design elements and landscape architecture were developed by the same award-winning Australian designers that introduced the world to the luxury brand’s famous properties in the Maldives and Dubai, most notably Palm Island.

Having been reconfigured to suit such luxury accommodation, the Hayman Island resort has undergone a complete transformation. The company states, “One&Only Hayman Island will offer reimagined resort living with beautifully appointed guest rooms, villas and penthouses. Located in three distinct areas of the resort, each accommodation will offer a different ambiance, each designed to take advantage of the breathtaking views and shades of teal and indigo of the ocean and natural surroundings.” The penthouse residences will be available in one, two and three bedroom layouts and will be decorated in modern, neutral colours for an ambiance in keeping with the property’s chic, yet understated elegance.

More Than Just Skin Deep

The Hayman Island resort has been transformed into an island oasis. Set against the backdrop of its very own two kilometre long white sand beach, the hideaway will feature enticing pool areas complete with private cabanas, plush day beds and cushy lounge chairs. Families and couples alike should find ample space for fun and relaxation. The resort will feature both an adult’s only pool as well as the brand new ‘Aquazure Pool,’ a “comprehensive experience for families” that will include its own cabanas.

What would a resort be without the finest in beach facilities? With a freestanding, private beach house and a collection of beach villas, guests will be able to enjoy the lovely ocean front setting from the comfort of a shaded enclosure. And if the outdoor activities aren’t enough, the resort will feature a new fitness centre and an in-house training team. Those who prefer a bit of pampering can enjoy a massage at the day spa and a full range of beauty treatments at the hair and beauty salon.
