Emirates wins award for aviation company of the year

31st October 2013

Every year the world's leading airlines covet the title of Airline of the Year, a prestigious industry award highlighting the best in the industry from air travel ratings company Skytrax.

In 2013, Skytrax announced Dubai-based airline Emirates as the winner of this title at the World Airline Awards in Paris.

Emirates also took home titles for the Best Middle East Airline for the ninth consecutive year and World's Best Inflight Entertainment.

These results were based on polls taken from over 18 million travellers from more than 160 countries, who flew for both business and leisure.

The airline has been in operation from 1985 and has grown exponentially ever since. Last year alone, 39 million customers chose to fly with Emirates, taking advantage of their excellent service and in-flight entertainment systems.

Emirates Airline President Tim Clark accepted the honours at the Paris Airshow, saying: "These awards are widely regarded as the industry’s benchmark for excellence.

"For us, the awards clearly reflect a vote of confidence from global travellers, who acknowledge and appreciate our continuous drive to deliver high-quality service. To be voted 'World's Best Airline' by millions of discerning travellers really is something for our 60,000 strong workforce to be proud of," he said.

The recognition is not new to Emirates, as the company has won many honours due to its premium services. The airline now houses over 500 international awards in its trophy cabinet.

Ice, Emirates' inflight entertainment system is an industry leader with over 1,500 channels for travellers to choose from.

"Being honoured with these awards is testament to our unrelenting effort to be the world’s best airline," Mr Clark concluded.
