Jason Brighton from Ackerfeld & Goldburg recently returned from Johannesburg, Cape Town, and the playground for both young and old - Sun City Resort.
After joining a small group of delegates, Jason's experience commenced with the vibrancy of V Australia's Business Class, on the direct non-stop service from Melbourne to Johannesburg. After accepting the offer of Moet champagne, Jason was set to rest on V's prepared-to-order flat bed seat.
Upon arrival in Johannesburg, the group was treated to Sandton's newest 5-star luxury hotel, the Da Vinci, a striking example of where the city has embraced all things chic in the western world. The style and contrast of black and white throughout the hotel was truly remarkable, and something Jason had yet to experience at any African hotel. A tour of Johannesburg took them to a variety of locations, but the stand-out was surely Soweto, where one couldn't help but feel the emotion emanating from the memorial, remembering all the children who were killed in the 1976 uprising.
The group's next stop took them to Cape Town where they were hosted by three of the city's leading hotels, The Taj, The One and Only, and the waterfront wonder itself, The Table Bay hotel. Each provides guests, whether individuals or groups, a stay surrounded with elegance, in a city that defies any misconception one might have of visiting Africa. The cable car journey to Table Mountain afforded the group spectacular views over Cape Town, while a day trip to the Cape of Good Hope, along with Cape Town's wine regions and its Penguin colony, gave them a small sample of the many activities available for those who seek adventure beyond the city limits.
A visit to South Africa could not have been complete without staying at the Sun City Resort - just 2 hours outside of Johannesburg. Often compared to the Atlantis resorts of the Bahamas and Dubai, Sun City takes great pride that it can offer guests 101 things to do at its own complex. However this is no ordinary hotel, but rather a number of hotels rated between 3-5 stars, closely scattered among hectares of African wilderness. Activities include golf, game viewing, casino gaming, live shows, wave pools, elephant feeding, quad and other motor activities, jet skiing, hot air ballooning, in fact, activities far too many to be mentioned. Jason also experienced the current ABBA show spectacular, despite not being able to sing along to every number (a bit before his time). Jason's highlight was the elephant feeding, where you're free to put the food right on the elephants tongue, and they even hold the pose while you take that happy, albeit anxious, snap. Without doubt, this is one destination that could keep anyone, or any group, busy for many days.
Jason's adventure proved that South Africa really is a destination that can be thoroughly enjoyed by both individuals and groups. With planning by an experienced professional, you can ensure you will see the very best South Africa has to provide.
