Soneva Kiri is truly a very special resort. The brand new property for Six Senses is the third to share the Soneva name - along with two other prominent resorts located in the Maldives. Upon disembarking from my private plane at Soneva Kiri airstrip, I am immediately greeted by my own Ms. Friday who whisks off my shoes and introduces the 'no news no shoes' concept of barefoot sophistication.
On-hand for the entire stay, Ms Friday takes me by private electric buggy to my one bedroom beachfront villa. The oversized pool villa is designed using an indoor/outdoor concept with an oversized private swimming pool enveloping the whole villa.
Any notion of being bored at a villa-style property on a remote island quickly passed, and ultimately 5 nights was simply not enough. I did not have to leave the resort, with days spent waking up each morning to the spectacular views, slowly venturing out for a leisurely breakfast and then heading off in my buggy (affectionately known as 'Ever Soneva Hilly') to my favourite position at the beach. After a while it was time for my daily dose of indulgence at the ice-cream parlour, free from 3-4pm every afternoon, and with 60 homemade flavours to choose from. I'd then move onto the chocolate room filled with all things chocolate including mousses, cookies, drinks, bon-bons or truffles. You simply walk in, help yourself and it is all free - a genuine chocolate lovers paradise!
Six Senses is well known for it's culinary talent and coming up with unique dining experiences. At Soneva Kiri they are introducing The Dining Pod, where up to four diners board the pod, are elevated about 5 metres off the ground by a system of safety winches and have their food courses and beverages arrive courtesy of a flying waiter harnessed to a zip line.
The Six Senses name is also synonymous with wellbeing and the Six Senses Spa, which is precisely where I spent every afternoon choosing from a range of a la carte and local treatments performed by highly-skilled therapists.
