Jane from Elliott & Turner Travel Associates and Rachael from Ross & Turner Travel Associates recently experienced an APT river cruise along the Danube in Europe.
Travelling with APT was complete indulgence onboard the brand new 5-star Amadolce. Jane and Rachael suggest upgrading to the French Balcony room, which allows you to experience river life from the comfort of your own room. The food was abundant with a combination of buffet and a la carte style for breakfast and lunch, and 5-course a la carte dining for dinner where meals are served with a fine selection of local wines and beers.
For Jane, one of the highlights of the trip was sailing through the Rhine Gorge past castle clad peaks surrounded by vineyards and tiny walled villages, with all the colours of autumn in full spectacle. The castles were incredible to see as they loomed out of the morning mist. When she showed her children the photographs they thought every picture looked like something out of a movie set. You truly get the feeling of the lives of kings and queens, knights and maidens as you explore the ancient towns and castles.
Rachael loved the idea of unpacking once while enjoying ever changing scenery. Everything is taken care of for you. The crew was fantastic; helpful, humorous and attentive. And with APT's freedom of choice tour options you can participate in as many or as few onshore activities as you like. The range of tour options included is wonderful. One of her favourite days was commandeering the ship's complimentary bikes and weaving her way through the countryside dotted with quaint homes and gardens. She also enjoyed relaxing in a local tavern in the vineyards before her trip home.
For Jane and Rachael this trip felt like stepping into the pages of a Grimm's fairytale as they walked through quaint little cobble stone villages full of ancient buildings and churches, peppered with delightful Christmas shops, bakeries and delicatessens brimming with German goodies to tempt.
An APT Europe river cruise is recommended for the more mature traveller, wanting to take travel at a more relaxed pace, enjoying the finer dining experiences and leisure activities onboard.
