Madonna took over the three-floor, 4,000 sq ft Penthouse for the evening. You come in to an enormous parlor with full-scale kitchen. Next up is the master bedroom, with a bathroom complete with ceiling-high one-way windows and a ceiling-fed Kohler SOK infinity bathtub that has under-water chromatherapy lighting. The top floor, which has another kitchen, is the relax and entertainment room (62-inch plasma screen, here). It leads to a 1,400 sq ft terrace with large hot tub and barbecue. Hotel General Manager is Ali Khoja.
Princess Diana and Elizabeth Taylor are among the many who have adored this two-floor, golden and yellow residential-like nest, eulogized by Plum Sykes in her book Bergdorf Blondes. You have a boudoir-type bed and a small private conservatory on your own terrace. If all this is not enough for a romantic hideaway you can tax your minds with the chess set thoughtfully provided, and you can invite six friends for dinner (the dining table seats eight). Hotel General Manager is Bernard Lackner.
Bob Barrie has designed the 4,000 sq ft villa, with its own serious infinity pool. You have four bedrooms (handy for storing clothes, sports equipment and the security guard that is part of your essential travel baggage). The villa has its own chef, and an icebox solely stacked with wine for impromptu tastings, but if you want to venture out Jean-Georges Vongerichten oversees Dunes restaurant. Also, take romantic strolls through the unique sunken garden that stretches right across the peninsula. Resort General Manager is André Boersma.
Sir Rocco Forte opened the former Speyer family home - built for a prominent banker in 1904 - earlier this year (General Manager is Georg Plesser). The 3,330 sq ft Georg Speyer suite takes up the whole of fifth floor, and comes with private elevator and a memorable circular dining room with tall turret ceiling overhead (inset windows allow romantic star-gazing). If the weather is right, you are only five minutes walk to the Main river and nearby galleries, or stay in to enjoy the Villa spa, with hammam and 50-foot pool.
There are two rooftop suites - the Presidential Suite, for the morning sun, and the Imperial Suite, for sensational sunsets. Both have 2,000 sq ft spread over two floors. Downstairs there is a parlor and a master bedroom with the same sensational views as from the circular tub (with Swarovski crystal taps). Upstairs your own rooftop terrace has outdoor jacuzzi, a small gym and - how sensational - a personal walkway through to the Michelin three-star La Pergola restaurant. General Manager is Marcus-Milan Arandelovic.
The two-floor penthouse here gives you 2,300 sq ft of light. The interior is pale colors and high tech, with more than enough plasma screens for the biggest addict. Go up 20 all-glass stairs and you find yourselves on your rooftop, with an outdoor lounge and a hot tub (yes, another television right there). 360-degree views over the Principality, its harbor and the Mediterranean mean that, at least during summer, you barely retreat back down inside. Venture out to dine at Alain Ducasse's Michelin three-star Louis XV, perhaps going on to the casino. General Manager is Jean-Pierre Siri.
Here, looking right across the harbor to Hong Kong Island, you have the largest suite in Asia, namely 7,000 sq ft, which includes a two-floor atrium. You also have a further 2,500 sq ft of terrace, with an infinity swimming pool (what a gloriously romantic start to any evening, swimming as you look across to the nightly 8pm laser show from the top of the corporate high rises across the water). WOW.travel suggestion then is to follow this up with a visit to Spoon (yes, Alain Ducasse again) - or Nobu, opening November 1st. General Manager is Jean-Jacques Riebel.
