Africa - a place as beautiful as it is wild. A place with so many locations to explore travellers are spoilt for choice.

Cape Town is should be top of the list of every African itinerary. Located on the south-western tip of Africa, Cape Town is regarded as one of the most beautiful places on earth. This province is made up of six regions: Cape Town, Cape Overberg, Cape Winelands, Cape Garden Route & Klein Karoo, Cape West Coast and Cape Karoo.

And thrill seekers are welcome in Cape Town. Popular local activities range from scenic drives and hiking trails to the highest commercial bungee jump in the world near Port Elizabeth, to shark cage diving. Cape Town is also home to some of the best golf courses in the world.

For travellers looking to soak up the local culture there are a range of activities to whet your appetite. Take the ferry to Robben Island to visit Nelson Mandela's prison cell. Or explore the preserved mission stations at Elim and Genadendal. Or you could take in a township tour and experience a little culture in Cape Flats.

After Cape Town, South Africa's Garden Route is Africa's second most popular tourist destination. Stretching along the coast like an exotic snake, the Garden Route is a rich tapestry of towering forests, clear freshwater lakes and fathomless gorges. See nature up close in South Africa's Oyster Capital. Or - if you'd prefer to laze the day away, the sandy white beaches and clear blue seas are perfect for a spot of whale or dolphin spotting.

Popular ways to explore the jewel of South Africa include: paragliding, four-wheel driving, hiking and bicycle riding. But don't be fooled into thinking this region is all about fitness - fine cuisine and luxury accommodation is always nearby with some of South Africa's best guesthouses tucked away in the forest.

A paradise for wine connoisseurs, Cape Winelands is another must-see. Located in the south-western Cape, the Mediterranean climate and rainfall combine to produce some of the best wines in the country. There are many luxury tours of the region on offer, and along the way guests are encouraged to stop and wander through historic villages and homesteads.

The fertile soils along the Breede River Valley and the areas of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl are world famous for their whites, reds, sherries, ports and brandies. Popular wine routes include the Constantia Valley, Coastal Routes, Little Karoo and Olifants River, to name a few!

A visit to the Eastern Cape is essential for any itinerary. The terrain in this region is wild and varied. From the lush Tsitsikamma Forest to the rugged Baviaanskloof wilderness, from the southern slopes of the Drakensberg to the arid Great Karoo, Eastern Cape exemplifies the inherent contradictions within nature perfectly.

Why not get up close and personal with the local fauna and go on safari to encounter the Big Five? The Big Five are the buffalo, elephant, lion, rhinocerous and leopard. Guided tours abound in this region, giving visitors the opportunity to experience wild animals up close.

Port Elizabeth is another destination not to be missed. This region is host to beautiful parks, botanical gardens and nature reserves that contain an abundance of local fauna. More importantly, Addo Elephant National Park is home to approximately 200 elephants as well as Cape buffalo, black rhino, kudu and over 180 bird species.

Be sure to check out Kwa Zulu Natal, the Zulu Kingdom. This kingdom ranges from the subtropical south coast to the scenic beauty of the Midlands, from the mountainous Drakensberg to the lush valleys of the North Coast. Host to two World Heritage sites - the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park and the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, this province features stunning beaches, an abundance of wildlife and relics of the great battles in South African history.

Nelspruit is known as the gateway to Mpumalanga and the Kruger National Park. This is primitive Africa at its best - as the caves of Sudwala, Dinosaur Park and the Cultural Centre would testify. The region contains enough hiking trails to keep travellers busy for weeks on end.

As the largest and richest city in South Africa, Johannesburg is perfect for travellers wishing to pick up the pace. Luxury accommodation abounds in Jo-burg, with a large number of stylish five star hotels available at your leisure.

Johannesburg was founded in 1886 when an unemployed miner found a stone bearing traces of gold, prompting the masses to flock to South Africa. Johannesburg became 'The Gold Capital of the World', and South Africa enjoyed an economic boom.

A country of contradictions, Africa is the perfect destination for the traveller who is themselves a little 'Wild at Heart.'

    Kruger Wildlife Experience

    from $2,569*

Kruger National Park and the adjoining private reserves of Greater Kruger National Park form one of Africa's finest wildlife areas, offering superb viewing opportunities all year round. In one of the first national parks to be established in Africa, the custodians of Kruger faced tragedy, triumph and hardship, as they have strived to protect a pristine wilderness region that is sanctuary to over 700 species of mammals, reptiles and birds.

Our safari is conducted by a professional guide, who works in conjunction with the specialist local guides of Timbavati Private Reserve. After a night in Johannesburg we set out for Greater Kruger National Park using an air-conditioned microbus. Once we reach camp all game drives are conducted in open 4WD vehicles.

We spend three nights in a private game lodge in Timbavati Game Reserve, part of Greater Kruger National Park, which boasts a similar range of animals to those found in the park proper. These include the 'Big Five', but the private reserves offer more opportunities for varied and close-up encounters.

With the open 4WD vehicles and a maximum of nine people in each, there is ample space to observe the many different species as they interact with each other and their environment. Keen photographers also have the chance to take those special shots of unexpected and sometimes dramatic wildlife interactions, as well as of peaceful bushveld scenes.

    Tanzania Lodge Safari

    from $3,425*

Tanzania boasts some of the most impressive national parks in Africa, containing some of the best range of wildlife on the entire continent. On this short lodge-based safari we visit Lake Manyara National Park, one of many such soda lakes in east Africa's Great Rift Valley, for our first game drive from our base at an incredible lodge overlooking the lake.

From Lake Manyara we travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and into the bordering Serengeti National Park. This is the quintessential Africa; where wide open plains stretch as far as the eye can see, supporting vast numbers of plains animals, including over two million wildebeest.

Driving around the Serengeti Plains ranks as one of the major highlights in all of Africa. Leaving the Serengeti we pause at Olduvai Gorge, an archaeological site made famous by Dr Leakey in the 1950's, before reaching the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater. Just 20 kilometres wide the crater floor teems with vast quantities of animals, including elephant, lion, cheetah and black rhino. The park is truly a mini 'Garden of Eden' which we will explore from our lodge, which is spectacularly perched on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater.

From Ngorongoro we travel to our final national park, Tarangire National Park, which has a wildlife concentration second only to the Ngorongoro Crater. This safari is conducted in a 4WD vehicle with a specialist local guide to give you the best possible insight into these famous parks of northern Tanzania.

    Magic of Madagascar

    from $4,729*

Madagascar is one of those destinations that seem to conjure up a thousand images just upon hearing the name alone. It is exotic and little-known - an island filled with strange and exciting flora and fauna. It is truly a land of exotic landscapes with diverse features and astounding natural beauty.

From the craggy eroded sandstone sculptures of Isalo National Park and the stunning coastline of the west to the rolling hills of the south and the seemingly pre-historic forests of the dramatic Tsaranoro Valley, Madagascar's beauty is certainly inspiring. Being cut off from the African mainland for millions of years has resulted in a diverse number of endemic species found nowhere else on earth.

Of these, the lemurs have attracted special interest and we get to meet many different types, from the indri (the largest species) of Anjozorobe Forest to the dancing Verreaux's sifaka of Berenty Reserve. Encountering these amazing primates is a real highlight, as their inquisitive personalities, sheer cunningness and striking markings are sure to provide many endearing memories.

Madagascar is also rich in bird life with many endemic species and there are also several unique reptile species, including the amazing chameleon. We also visit villages and remote communities, with a kaleidoscope of 18 million people and 18 distinct tribal groups ensuring many rich and varied cultural experiences.

Although Madagascar is a relatively new tourism destination, the Malagasy people are warm and friendly and live harmoniously in their island paradise. One of the most memorable aspects of travelling to Madagascar is the relaxed pace and the real lack of haste that seems to be part of day-to-day life of the Malagasy people. This is one holiday experience that is sure to be etched in your memory

HIGHLIGHTS: Nairobi - Meru National Park - Nakuru - Lake Nakuru National Park - Masai Mara - Arusha - Lake Manyara National Park - Serengeti National Park - Olduvai Gorge - Ngorongoro Crater - Tarangire National Park

This is East Africa's premier safari experience Utilising lodges and two alluring permanent tented camps, this journey features two of Africa's most prolific and spectacular wildlife countries. In Nakuru we are also able to support the incredible Ujima Foundation, which is giving many impoverished locals an opportunity to develop certain skills that will give them a better chance in life.

In Kenya we explore the Masai Mara and Meru National Park, as well as visit the alkaline Lake Nakuru. Kenya's game reserves are among the best in the world, with large quantities of animals inhabiting vast tracts of land. The ecosystems, landscapes and wildlife highlight the diversity of this region and our guide will be happy to explain to us all the intricacies of this fascinating area. Our beautiful tented camp on the outskirts of Masai Mara National Reserve also affords opportunities for a game walk and a night drive, in addition to the traditional full day game drive in 'the Mara' itself.

Tanzania boasts some of the most impressive national parks in Africa, containing some of the best collection of wildlife in the entire continent. We visit Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti National Park and Tarangire National Park, as well as the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Ngorongoro Crater. Tanzania boasts some of the most impressive national parks in Africa, containing some of the best range of wildlife on the entire continent.

We visit Lake Manyara National Park, one of many such soda lakes in East Africa's Great Rift Valley, for our first game drive from our base at an incredible lodge overlooking the lake. From Lake Manyara we travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and into the bordering Serengeti National Park. This is the quintessential Africa, where wide open plains stretch as far as the eye can see, supporting vast numbers of plains animals, including over two million wildebeest.

We also pay a visit to the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater. Just 20 kilometres wide, the crater floor teems with vast quantities of animals, including elephant, lion, cheetah and black rhino. The park is truly a mini Garden of Eden. We will explore the crater from our lodge, which is spectacularly perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. From Ngorongoro we travel to our final national park, Tarangire National Park, which has a wildlife concentration second only to the Ngorongoro Crater.

    Delta, Dunes & Falls

    from $6,175*

The dramatic landscape of Table Mountain, as it is towers over the great cosmopolitan city of Cape Town, is one of the most striking views you'll encounter on the continent. From this impressive introduction we travel north through the verdant hills of Cederberg and the arid, rocky panorama of the Northern Cape to Namibia.

Namibia is one of the great surprises of southern Africa, boasting some of the most spectacular and breathtaking desert scenery on earth. The great sand dunes of the Namib Desert, which rear over 300 metres above the desert floor, are a sight never to be forgotten.

When one adds some of the world's most weird and wonderful vegetation, the wild Atlantic coast and the famous rock etchings of Twyfelfontein, it all results in a destination of unparalleled diversity. And as no visit to Africa is complete without viewing wildlife, the famous Etosha National Park provides the perfect opportunity to encounter a great array of animal and bird life, the equal of any in Africa.

When you combine all of this with a visit to an area containing arguably the most amazing wetlands in the world, namely the wonderful Okavango Delta in neighbouring Botswana, the result is an expedition of extraordinary diversity. The Okavango boasts delightful water-based scenery, often in total contrast to the dry and arid lands which surround it, along with some quite exceptional birding - you don't have to be an enthusiast to be soon enthralled - and the opportunity to see much of the wildlife which Africa is so justifiably famous for.

To complete this magical safari we travel to Livingstone in Zambia to view the spectacular Victoria Falls or 'Mosi-oa-Tunya' as it is locally known, meaning 'The Smoke That Thunders'.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa. It lies close to the equator, yet snow, ice and glaciers are to be found on its highest slopes. Soaring to the impressive altitude of 5895 metres (19,350 feet), it provides incredible views of hundreds of square kilometres of surrounding countryside - thousands of feet below - as well as of the mountain peaks, valleys and glaciers around you.

The walk to the summit takes you through a number of distinctly different climatic and vegetation zones - from beautiful rainforest, to alpine moorland, to volcanic desert, to glaciers, ice and snow. Even if you do not make it to the top, the scenic interest and rewards of the lower sections are considerable.

No mountaineering experience is required; you are able to walk all the way. As you gain altitude, however, the going will seem tough at times - the increasing effect of altitude, and walking on scree slopes on the upper sections, mean that this is a far-from-easy undertaking.

In addition, very cold conditions can be encountered on the higher slopes, and you must be adequately equipped with cold and wet weather clothing. However, if you walk slowly, even from the start at lower altitudes, have a good mental attitude and a reasonable degree of physical fitness, this will all help immeasurably.

You will be accompanied by guides, and porters will help to carry your luggage. On the way up your nights are spent in tents, on the Machame route; however on the descent you join the Mweka route, spending one night in this area (but still using our own tents). The thrill of reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro gives one an unsurpassed sense of achievement.

The Machame Route is a day longer than the standard trail - and we have added a further day to the standard itinerary - this provides important additional time for acclimatisation and may well increase your chances of summiting.

After your climb you head out on safari staying in beautifully appointed, permanent tented camps. We game drive at picturesque Lake Manyara enroute to the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater. Just 20 kilometres wide, the crater floor teems with vast quantities of game, including elephant, lion, cheetah and black rhino.

From Ngorongoro Crater we head into the Serengeti National Park. This is quintessential Africa, where wide open plains stretch as far as the imagination, and beyond, supporting vast numbers of plains game, including over two million wildebeest. A visit to the Serengeti ranks as one of the major highlights in all of Africa. This trip is truly the ultimate challenge, followed by the ultimate reward

Trou Aux Biches, Mauritius - Economy Package

    from $6,309*

Pure luxury! Set in a tropical garden paradise and fronted by a pure white sandy beach, Mauritius' newest resort boasts Beachfront Suites, Garden Suites, amazing two and three bedroom Pool Villas and 6 sumptuous restaurants.

Just over an hour from the airport, 10 minutes from Grand Baie, and 20 minutes from Port Louis, Trou aux Biches has been a favourite on the international travel scene for decades. In rebuilding what is now the most modern of Mauritius' hotels, architects worked skilfully to retain the village charm and atmosphere of the original resort, preserving the resort's gardens and water features as the centrepiece. Rather than just one main pool, there are now seven large pools scatted throughout the gardens with the accommodation centred around these. In addition, there are over 90 Beachfront Suites, Senior Suites, and Villas, all with their own pools.

The six restaurants at Trou aux Biches are located on the beach front or adjacent to the beach front pools. At three of the restaurants chefs serve the very best of international cuisine. Three other specialty restaurants create delicacies from India, Thailand and Italy.

Trou aux Biches' Spa by Clarins echoes the resort's authentic charm. Its individual thatched pavilions, tucked away amidst palm trees and exotic plants, provide an instant sense of elegance and tropical sophistication. A tranquil reflecting pool is at the heart of the spa.

As with all Beachcomber hotels, sport abounds! There is a huge selection of water sports, including free water-skiing. On shore the Head Tennis Academy courts and access to the state-of-the-art gym are available at no charge.
