The unfortunate truth is that flying emits a great deal of greenhouse gases into our atmosphere. But by offsetting your share of the flight emissions through a small contribution, you can fly 'carbon neutral'.

How does it work?

Essentially, when you buy a carbon offset, proceeds from your contribution are invested into offset projects which help reduce the impact of carbon emissions on the environment.

How can I carbon offset my flights?

Many airlines now offer you the chance to do this when you book with them. However, even if they don't, Travel Associates has teamed with Cleaner Climate to allow all travellers to offset their carbon dioxide emissions from air travel. We can help you calculate your emissions and find out how much it will cost to offset them. Then, if you choose to offset, you can make a one-off offset payment which will help fund Cleaner Climate's Offset Project.

What is the Offset Project?

Cleaner Climate has partnered with Phillips, one of the world's leading electronic companies, to supply and install six million energy efficient light bulbs into poor South African communities with little or no infrastructure.

The environmental benefit of this program is the equivalent of making 215,000 cars carbon neutral each year for seven years. Phillips will also train and work with unemployed locals on energy efficiency. This will not only help reduce the harmful environmental impact of CO2 but will empower the communities by creating hundreds of paying jobs. In addition, the project will help release pressure on the fragile local electricity grid and therefore minimise blackouts.

How do I know my money has gone to offsetting?

Once you make your offset payment, you will receive an offset certificate from Cleaner Climate verifying your carbon offset. Offsetting your flights is one small step you can make to reduce your carbon emissions - and help our environment.
