If you were to name the world's most scenic and romantic cities, chances are, San Francisco would be right up there at the top of the list.
The familiar sights and sounds and almost mysterious ambiance set the mood - the Golden Gate Bridge, spanning the picturesque bay with its massive red towers, fog horns heard in the distance; an impromptu concert or art show at stately Union Square as shoppers bustle past with their parcels from the famous boutique lined plaza; the clang, clang, clang of a cable car as it manoeuvres its way up the steep city streets to a romantic hill top lookout.
A city that benefited and prospered from the heady days of the California Gold Rush in the 1840s, San Francisco accumulated a treasure trove of iconic attractions. The city envelops you, drawing you in with world-class museums, art galleries, historic parks and landmarks and grand, old-world hotels. It’s the simple pleasures too which make this such a special place. Be sure to make time for a hearty bread bowl of clam chowder soup, made all the more tasty when enjoyed along Fishermans Wharf.
San Francisco is a year around destination for visitors. In summer, temperatures peak at around 21 degrees, while in winter the mercury rises on average to about 14 degrees. Summers are however considerably drier with the bulk of rain falling between January and March.
