Sightseeing in Maui

Hana Highway - This 68 mile (109km) scenic highway winds its way along the northern edge of the island from Kahului to Hana, on the islands eastern shore. Revel in the splendour of this panoramic journey as you pass through dense tropical rainforest and along spectacular coastal cliff tops. When driving the full length of this journey nonstop, the trip will take at least 2.5 hours one way, but with plenty of sights in Hana, visitors will want to spend a day or two exploring the lovely little town. Popular sites include a 15th century temple, Hamoa Beach and gorgeous tropical gardens.

Haleakala National Park - A U.S. National Park, Haleakala features impressive volcanic landscapes and natural, fresh water pools. Discover the unique flora and fauna in the massive 11km wide crater of this long dormant volcano and admire the changing light against the cliffs from sunrise to sunset. Located in the Kipahulu section of the park, fresh water pools make for refreshing swimming holes while hiking trails provide access to lovely waterfalls. At night, head to the Haleakala Observatory for some of the best star gazing in the world.

Iao Valley - This dense, rainforest covered state park may be just 2.5 hectares in area, but the extraordinary beauty found here is limitless. Its main feature is the Iao Needle, a cliff top ridge jutting over 370 metres high. The Needle Lookout Trail provides stunning views of this towering natural wonder and its neighbouring mountain cliffs. Head to the park’s Heritage Gardens which showcase Hawaii’s rich cultural heritage as expressed through beautiful ethnic architecture and cultural gardens.
