The Fiji calendar is filled with fascinating festivals and interesting cultural events throughout the year. From music and sporting events to art, dance and ethnic or religious festivals, there are numerous ways to experience the fun filled, party like atmosphere in Fiji. Here's a short list of some of the events and festivals taking place annually.

Fiji International Triathlon

Having a successful turn out several years running, the Fiji International Triathlon attracts athletes from around the world. There are several different course levels based on fitness and experience, but the one to watch is the most challenging. The gruelling long course consists of a 2km swim, 80km bike ride and 20km run. Held in June, the beautiful setting is sure to get everyone in the fitness loving spirit whether you're a participant or spectator.

Bula Festival

Music, dance, art and food come together in this week long celebration outside Nadi. Held in Koroivulo Park and Prince Charles Park in Jetset Town, the Bula Festival also features themed nights and contests for all to get involved. The proceeds of the festival go to local charitable organisations. The 2015 festival will be held in July.

The Hibiscus Festival  

Celebrating 59 years, the Hibiscus Festival has become a Fiji tradition. Held in Fiji's capital city, Suva, this happy event is held in August and consists of family entertainment, amusement rides and parades with traditional Fijian music and dance.

The Sugar Festival

September's main event is the Sugar Festival. Located in Fiji's second largest city, Lautoka, this week long festival celebrates all things sugar. Featuring parades, sugar themed floats and amusement rides, Sugar Festival finishes off with the crowning of Miss Sugar. In addition to Miss Sugar, the festival has also added categories for the crowing of Mr. Sugar King, Miss Sugar Teen and Miss Sugar Princess.
